Sea otters are found along the shallow, sandy, rocky coastal shores of southeast Alaska and the Aleutian Islands. Otters do not have blubber to keep them warm.  Instead they rely on their very dense underfur.  This underfur ranges in density from 170,000 hairs per square inch on its feet to over 1 million hairs per square inch on its forelegs.
